Webinar: Tips on a Successful Transition to Working with Portland-Limestone Cement Mixes

April 16, 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm CDT

Program Description

One way that cement manufacturers are responding to environmental concerns is with an increased range of products and formulations. Blended cements offer an opportunity to reduce the GWP of cement – and therefore concrete, mortar, and grout – to significantly contribute to a lower carbon footprint of construction. ASTM C595 Type IL, commonly known as portland-limestone cement (PLC), has been used with increasingly frequency since 2021. While it is very similar to ASTM C150 portland cement, certain fresh or hardened concrete properties may be different with PLC, and users should know how to adjust mixes and installation practices if necessary. This session describes common issues to consider and potential modifications when using PLC materials to ensure successful implementation.

Learning Objectives

Through attending this program, registrants will understand the following concepts and be able to apply them to their professional practice:

  • How PLC compares to portland cement.
  • The potential influence of PLC on fresh and hardened concrete properties, and corresponding adjustments to mixes.
  • Effective approaches for evaluating installation methods and implementing modifications when needed.
  • How regional variations may play a role in performance.
