ICRI Carolinas Chapter Returns to the Hotel Indigo in Mt. Pleasant, SC

Spring Conference presentations to include:

Mike McLean, PE Project Engineer Applied Building Sciences
“Repairs to 12th floor stairs at Historic Francis Marion Hotel, Charleston, SC.”

An overview of the investigation, analysis, and repair method that was used to design repairs to a deteriorated reinforced concrete stair flight that was constructed outboard of the main structure. The presentation includes discussion of life-safety considerations for the structure, special considerations for historic buildings, special considerations for wind and high seismic applications, interdisciplinary communication & coordination.

Peter White, P.E. Principal and Managing Director, Diagnostics Group, Walter P Moore
“Renovations to the Historic Omni Homestead Resort, Hot Springs, VA”

Investigation of masonry façade and wall deterioration, as well as investigation of deteriorated and deflected wood floor framing and columns.   Discussion of the design of the repairs and the renovation methodology and challenges.

Ralf Leistikow, PE, Principal, Wiss Janney Elstner Associates, Inc
“Assessment of Post-Tensioning and Prestressing Tendons Exposed to a Fire”

Understand the typical scope of a fire damage investigation of a post-tensioned and prestressed concrete structure, and know what Codes and Guidelines are available as resources.  How to interpret various heat indicators in and around a fire zone, as well as determine the potential limits of fire damage to a post-tensioning and prestressing system exposed to elevated temperatures.  Introduction to potential repair types.

Ed Kluckowski, PE and Lukas Haytor P.E., Freyssinet
“Fire Damage to an Industrial Building and How it was Repaired”

Insight into engineering forensics and concrete repairs to a facility that was exposed to fire. The Engineer (WP Moore) determined the damage to the fire exposed concrete (prestressed concrete beams and Double-Tees) and the contractor (Freyssinet) developed an external post-tensioned solution to put load carrying capacity back into the damaged concrete beams and Double-Tees.
