Are you looking to become qualified as a concrete surface repair inspector? If so, the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), whose mission is to be the leading resource for education, certification, and information to improve the quality of repair, restoration, and protection of concrete and other structures, has a program for you. ICRI is pleased to offer its Concrete Surface Repair Technician (CSRT) Certification Program.
Provided below is a downloadable overview of the Concrete Surface Repair Technician (CSRT) program.
This online certification program was developed based on industry demand and code language. The new ACI 562-16, “Code Requirements for Evaluation, Repair, and Rehabilitation of Concrete Buildings” outlines repair inspector qualifications for the inspection of concrete repairs, and designates an individual who has been certified as an ICRI Concrete Surface Repair Technician, as a qualified inspector.
The Concrete Surface Repair Technician Certification Program is a competency-based program using current best practices for online training and evaluation. The Educational component is presented and tested online while the Performance component is tested both online and assessed by observable criteria (video submission or live recorded).
The certification program has two tiers:
Tier 1 only applicants are those who may not be regularly engaged in concrete surface repair inspection and testing, yet have an active interest in learning more about the inspection and tests, be introduced to types of concrete deterioration, understand the requirements for a quality concrete surface repair, be aware of repair materials and methods, and be qualified to perform pre and post-placement inspections and testing.
Tier 2 applicants are those who seek full certification. Both tiers require participation in five (5) online training modules, with each module incorporating education, training, and questions. Tier 2 full certification applicants are also required to take an online knowledge exam and perform each of the four ASTM tests included in the program.
Tier 1, ICRI Concrete Surface Repair Technician Educational Program, consists of five (5) online training modules. Those who successfully complete this portion of the program, including passing all five (5) online training modules, will be awarded a Certificate of Achievement from ICRI.
The full certification program, Tier 2, ICRI Concrete Surface Repair Technician—Grade 1, consists of the same five (5) online training modules in Tier 1, an online knowledge exam, and a performance exam (video submission or live recorded). By passing the five (5) online training modules, the online knowledge exam, and performance exam, an ICRI Concrete Surface Repair Technician—Grade 1 certification will be issued by ICRI, and the individual will receive a certificate and wallet card. The individual can also be added to the ICRI Certified Concrete Surface Repair Technician database on the ICRI website if desired.
ICRI Concrete Surface Repair Technician Certification, Grade I, shall be valid for a period of five (5) years from the date of completion of all applicable certification requirements.
The Tier 2 online knowledge and performance exams are based on the Educational Program (Tier 1) and the following four (4) ASTM Standards, including all Annexes and Appendices, and ICRI Guideline:
C31, Standard Practice for Making and Curing Concrete Test Specimens in the Field;
C143, Standard Test Method for Slump of Hydraulic-Cement Concrete;
C1583, Standard Test Method for Tensile Strength of Concrete Surfaces and the Bond Strength or Tensile Strength of Concrete Repair and Overlay Materials by Direct Tension (Pull-off Method);
C1611, Standard Test Method for Slump Flow of Self-Consolidating Concrete; and
ICRI Guideline No. 210.3R, Guide for Using In-Situ Tensile Pulloff Tests to Evaluate Bond of Concrete Surface Materials
This training is offered exclusively online through our ICRI Learning Center. You will need an internet connection and up-to-date internet browser to complete this training. We strongly recommend a broadband connection as there are several training videos throughout the training modules. Firefox and Safari are recommended as the ideal browsers.
