~ Southern California ICRI President’s Message ~

Hello Chapter Members,

The chapter would to thank all of those who participated in the March and April events. For those of you who were not able to attend, below are a few highlights.

March 27, 2015 Southern CA Spring Golf Outing - Oak Creek Golf Club

The Southern California Chapter recently held another successful golf tournament held at beautiful Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, CA. The field of golfers gathered for a 12:30pm shotgun start followed by an awards dinner.

The Concrete Cup Trophy was once again held onto by the ACI team. For those who may not be familiar with The Concrete Cup, Southern CA ICRI dedicates a foursome with at least 2 board members to challenge a foursome entered by ACI San Diego and ACI Los Angeles, also with the required 2 board member minimum. Since the awards inception, ACI has regrettably won 3 straight tournaments.
The overall winning foursome, with a best-ball score of 17-under, was the team of Dave Hamilton and teammates.

April 21, 2015 Technical Event: "Concrete Repair Challenges at the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California"

Southern CA gathered at JT Schmid's in Anaheim, CA for an informative technical event presented by Metropolitan Water District of Southern CA. The event featured a 40 minute presentation with a 15 minute Q&A session during which attendees were treated to lunch and refreshments.

Johnny Wallace, from the Materials and Metallurgy Team of Southern CA MWD, presented insightful information specific to concrete repair challenges the water district faces, as well as business opportunity details for both suppliers and contractors. Johnny drew on 20 years of field experience including 14 years with Chevron's Offshore Oil Production Group. The event was very well-received as the Q&A session had to be cut short due to time constraints and several groups of attendees stayed after to gather more information. John Arena, Business Outreach Manager for MWD, also presented on the California Construction Expo 2015, at which contractors, suppliers, and engineers can liaise with Ports, Airports, Municipalities, etc. throughout Southern CA.

The chapter would like to thank Johnny Wallace, John Arena, Christopher Beggs, and David Yanez, all of MWD, for their support and contribution to the event.

We would like to also announce a couple of upcoming events to circle in your calendars:

  • June 25, 2015: Bonding Lab 305: Concrete Bonding Agents Live Demo Comparisons - Simpson Strong-Tie facility in Riverside, CA.
  • September 24, 2015: CalTrans Concrete Repair Challenges - Sika Sarnafil facility in Cypress, CA.
  • November, 2015 (Date TBD): Casino Night Social Event

Thank you again to everyone who has made 2015 a success, and we look forward to seeing you all very soon.
