Today, as a society, we live in times where there is more awareness and focus on sustainability than ever before. To the general masses, concrete repair as an industry may not be recognized for the contribution that it continues to bring to the cause of sustainability. But here is another project that proves that concrete repair is nothing but sustainability. Imaginative thinking coupled with the concrete repair solutions available today, along with the spirit of innovation, are the hallmarks of this amazing success story, now called “The Baltimore Design School.”

This structure was built a century ago. The two known occupants of this building were a bottle manufacturing company and a clothing factory. Designed to perfection for optimal use of energy, this building served the city of Baltimore well for three quarters of a century. In the 1980s, the structure became a victim of the decline of the manufacturing industry. The building was sealed and abandoned.

After a quarter-century, circumstances presented themselves for the revival of the structure for a totally different use than what it was built for originally. This building was selected to be the site of the Baltimore Design School—with a clear mission to train the aspiring artists of tomorrow.

Design, financing, concrete repair solutions, and the collaboration of private and government sectors had to be at its best to deliver a successful project. From the ruins of an abandoned building rises the new home for the Baltimore Design School, which from now to the foreseeable future will nourish creative young minds.
