Who knows — we may even see some alligators! Enjoy your last night in New Orleans with a one-of-a-kind experience. You won’t want to miss it. Transportation, open bar, and food will all be provided.
Sitting is the new smoking! Many events at ICRI conventions have you sitting while you are participating in committee meetings, luncheons, business meetings, dinners, awards, guest speakers, etc. As great as those events are, it puts an extra importance on making sure you get some activity in to get the blood flowing.
One fad that has been sweeping the nation is the target of 10,000 steps a day. Whether it is measured by 10,000 steps or by 45 minutes of movement at once or in intervals throughout your daily schedule, the benefits of an active lifestyle versus a sedimentary one is apparent including:
- Burning an additional 400-500 calories a day (which could equal losing about one lb per week)
- Lowering blood pressure
- Lowering glucose levels
- Improved cardio
- A wakeful mind
- Help you feel more rested in the evenings
- Reduction in stress.
ICRI wants to support your health and encourage you to get the blood flowing at our conventions. So we would like to present an activity club where you can sign up and log your daily step activity. The physical and emotional benefits should be enough to get you to participate but knowing that you people are a competitive bunch, Brian Daly has offered a prize to the person who can log the most steps between the start of convention (Wednesday AM) to Friday, 10:30 AM. Winner will be announced at 12:00 PM on Friday in the Convention App!
Log your steps at the ICRI registration desk using your smart phone, smart watch, or pedometer and they will be keeping a spreadsheet. If you don’t have a specific device to monitor your steps, every day you should be able to show your previous days steps on your phone. See someone who is technically savoy to help you with it if you don’t know how.
Prizes will be award to the step leaders for each day with an overall prize for the most steps by Friday, 10:30 AM!
Good luck and keep moving!
