PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Our symposium in October on concrete placement techniques and foundation wall waterproofing was a great success. I would like to thank all of the attendees, we had over one hundred, and all of our exhibitors for supporting our efforts. Attendees indicated that they were drawn by several factors including the waterproofing component, live demonstrations of concrete placement and foundation wall waterproofing, as well as the diversity of the event. Special thanks go out to Johnson Western Gunite and Western Construction Group who spent a great deal of time helping to construct the mockups for us. I would also like to thank the board members that made huge efforts to ensure the success of the symposium and sacrificed their personal time for our benefit. We welcome any feedback that you may have. Please feel free to contact me or any other board members to offer your input.
On Tuesday, 17 November 2009 between noon and 1:00 p.m. we will be holding a lunch presentation by Kent Sasaki of Wiss Janney Elstner, Associates. Kent’s topic is alkali-silica reaction of concrete bridges in the Los Angeles freeway system. We hope that you can join us for this intriguing presentation. Full details are provided in this newsletter.
As the year draws to a close our chapter elections are at hand. We have several board positions that will open up this year and we hope that you will get involved by becoming a board member. We have already spoken to some of our more active chapter members and have positive feedback for new recruits. Our board typically meets four times per year, approximately two hours before our noontime lunch presentations to discuss ICRI chapter issues. Generally, there can be one or two additional board coordination meetings depending on the activities that year. Brad Kamin is the chair of our nominating committee, so I encourage you to contact either Brad Kamin (kamin.brad@sika-corp.com) or me to have your name added to the our ballot.
