Welcome to the meetings,
member list, and officer information page for the Northern California chapter.
I would like to express my thanks to our members for helping our chapter to have a very rewarding year with our
lunchtime technical presentations and in particular our symposium on concrete placement techniques and foundation wall waterproofing. We look forward to an excellent new year as well. I am presenting my final President’s message and in the New Year you will notice
some changes. Our chapter will operate without an “official” president next year for the first time since our inception. Unfortunately, we did not have any volunteers to take on the increased responsibility of presiding over our chapter as President. To overcome this hurdle, I proposed to our Board
that four Board members/officers jointly share the responsibilities of
President in 2010, with the hope that we will elect a new president in 2011. Heidy Braverman, Tom Voss, Bud Lampley and Charlie Freas have all
agreed to share the President’s responsibilities. They will send you updates of our Chapter activities via the President’s Message in our newsletter using their Board title. We also intend to mentor new board members so that they
can become officers (secretary, treasurer, vice-president) should any of our current directors run for higher Board positions for 2011. My term will
continue as “Past-President” to help the Board through our transition. Please join us to start off the new year in good fashion, as we kick off with our annual joint meeting with ASCE (American Society of Civil Engineers). Mr. Sauer of Structural Technologies will present new and existing technologies to improve the performance of structures subject to the effects of earthquake, blast and wind loading. Mr. Sauer will focus on the retrofit of existing structures to mitigate localized failure of structural elements and resist progressive collapse. Our meeting will take place between noon and 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, 19 January 2010 at Hs. Lordships restaurant at the
Berkeley Marina. Full details are provided in this newsletter.
