REPAIR AND WATERPROOFING OF PARKING DECK AT UPS

New York, New York
Submitted by Infrastructure Repair Service, LLC |
 |
This project encompassed repair and waterproofing of the roof of the UPS facility in New York, NY, which also served as its parking deck.
The project consisted of demolition and removal of the existing 85,000 ft2 (7897 m2) topping slab; containment and removal of the existing asphaltic, asbestos contaminated waterproofing; demolition of 30,000 ft2 (2787 m2) of steel-reinforced structural slab; application of 85,000 ft2 (7897 m2) of hot, fluid-applied waterproofing membrane; installation of a new 85,000 ft2 (7897 m2), steel-reinforced topping slab; 600 ft (183 m) of new expansion joints; 16,600 ft (5,060 m) of caulking and tooling of construction joints; 2500 ft2 (232 m2) of overhead chipping and patching; and 25,000 ft2 (2323 m2) of traffic-bearing waterproofing membrane on the access ramps.
Prior to the commencement of any work, protection had to be installed. A suspended platform was erected below the structural slab to protect the distribution facility below from any damage caused by the significant demolition taking place on the parking deck. Also prior to any work, a 15,000 ft2 (1394 m2) tent had to be installed to protect the facility from the open area in the structural slab that could have been susceptible to the elements, the general public from dust contaminants, and the workforce from any down time due to inclement weather that could have stopped work progress.
Furthermore, the owner of the package distribution facility was not willing to shut down any segment of its package distribution facility during the repairs to the roof/ parking structure. |
