NEW FIXCONCRETE.ORG KNOWLEDGE SITE OFFERS WEALTH OF INFORMATION TO THE CONCRETE INDUSTRY

October 2, 2003 -- To meet the demanding growth of the concrete repair industry, in the United States, the American Concrete Institute (ACI), the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), and the University of Missouri at Rolla (UMR), have launched Fixconcrete.org, a knowledge management site for the repair, protection and upgrade of concrete structures.

Fixconcrete.org is a state-of-the-art system to digitally collect, store, retrieve and distribute knowledge, via streaming videos, throughout the concrete repair industry. "Fixconcrete.org is an excellent tool for everyone involved in the concrete repair industry to keep abreast of the latest information, technologies, and resources available," said Peter Emmons, Chair of the Fixconcrete.org task group. "The site currently has more than 400 videos featuring technical presentations from ACI and ICRI conventions," he added.

Fixconcrete.org contains video presentations, industry case studies, articles and papers and other forms of industry knowledge. Hosted and supported by the Center for Infrastructure Engineering Studies at the University of Missouri at Rolla (CIES), the content and organization of Fixconcrete.org is overseen by a task group involving members of ACI and ICRI.

The innovative site enables users to access industry knowledge anytime, anywhere and view industry leaders as they present relevant technical knowledge and wisdom in real time with streaming real video. "The information on new technologies and procedures posted prior to industry documentation will help reduce the learning curve for new projects and procedures, "added Emmons. Content from the site, including materials, investigation, design and field procedures is included to create ideas for solutions to problems and opportunities. Users can easily search for topics or interest based on keywords, or access the information through a table of contents.

"By the fall of 2003, Fixconcrete.org will also be offering Continuing Education Units (CEU) in conjunction with the University of Missouri at Rolla," Emmons noted. Access to this new site is $30 for a twelve-month period. Internet access is required; for best viewing broadband connections are recommended.
